The Crusade
Not much comes to limelight ! Women suffer in silence !
Women are groomed to believe that it is ultimately their fault !
Behind the closed doors of many homes, women are physically, mentally and worse sexually abused. After marriage it becomes even worse for many of them. Marriages are spoken of to be made in heaven, but for many it is the ultimate hell !
Those select few who are happy are lucky ! Not many are lucky !
Sufferings start right from their birth. Most of them are treated as house elves in their in-laws place. Imagine their plight if they are unemployed !
Well, does that mean employed women are less prone to ignominy. Let’s not forget about the Occupational hazards that drive them to hell !
Are Women the Weaker Sex? Well, I don’t want to comment on their physical strengths. There are lots of women who break barriers and come out with flying colors thereby inspiring their fellow people. Do they constitute women in entirety?
Recently, there was a big hype about the Tourism Minister of Pakistan hugging her training inspector after a successful paraglide. The act annoyed a hard-line cleric who wanted her resignation for her so called ‘Sinful Act’. Atrocious and Ridiculous to the core !
Are Women really denied of their freedom? Well, one would argue that women are not denied of their freedom citing the way how some women loiter around in skimpy costumes which many people call it a ‘Disgrace’ to their culture !
Well, let’s not think about these westernized women! Let’s try to address the problem of those who are suffering.
In rural India, the humiliations inflicted upon women are colossal. Many are forced into prostitution and the country which was responsible for their pathetic state looks down on them with contempt !
When women are compelled to leave their homes and their countries for one reason or the other, they lay open themselves to new forms of violence and exploitation !
When are we going to get justice ? Is it in our hands or with the society ? Even if we try to come out of the hood, will the society accept us ?
It’s very heartening to see ‘The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 ‘ come into effect.
Now, women can fight it legally and let’s see how far they succeed in the crusade.

Hi da,
Its really written with very good thoughts and feelings. It touched my heart and I cannot believe that a cute little fun loving girl could written an article on Social awareness like this.
Keep writing
Great da...
I must say that this is the finest Blog U have ever written Siva, it really moved me.
Despite being a man, I really feel for the womenfolk.
We have entered the 21st Century, this is the age of technology, of gizmos like I-Pods, Playstaions, High Definition Plasma TVs and not 2 forget Stem Cell Research & Human cloning.
But, why hasn't the world come to terms with the fact that men are not the superior race, rather both men & women are equal.
It makes my blood boil when I hear that Female Infenticide still goes on in places like Punjab where pre birth sex determination is done on Pregnant women and most of them Dispose off female babies by getting Fetuses removed and then dumping them in wells. Why all this, becuase the parents only want sons. How Pathetic.
Women are looked down upon as the weaker sex. So what if women are physically not as strong as men, but mentally & emotionallly most women are stronger than their male counterparts.
Women have come on top in every field & profession, whether its Politics (Late Indira Gandhi, Margret Thatcher, Hillary Clinton, Condezella Rice, Benazi Bhutto, Sonia Gandhi, Shiela Dikshit or even Mayawati); Charity & Human Welfare (Late Mother Teresa, Late Princess Diana, Oprah Winfrey); Fiction Writing (Danielle Steele, Arundhati Roy, Anita Desai, Kiran Desai, Shobha De); Journalism (Barkha Dutt, Rena Golden, Sonia Singh, Sagarika Ghosh, Aneesha Baig); Filmaking (Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta, Gurinder Chadha); Astronauts (Late Kalpna Chawla, Sunita Williams); Singing (Lata Mangeskar, Asha Bhonsle, Late MS Subhalakshmi); Corporate Sector (Indra Nooyi, Kiran Mazumdaar Shaw); Police (Kiran Bedi), Athletics (PT Usha, Jyotirmoyee Sikdar,Sunita Rani,Anju Bobby George) and TV Production (Ekta Kapoor- I hate her for all the Crap she has put on TV, but her success is enviable).
But still there are some people who haven't changed with the times, the ones who live with a Medival Mindest (The Mentality of 1500-1600), they consider women to be nothing but objects of desire who should stay at home & do nothing but bring up children & do household work.
These people are so jealous of progressive women, that they look for small reasons like short clothes to target women as temptresses, how sick of them.
In the urban areas the sitaution is good, but in the rural areas, the fairer sex is still lying in the dumps.
But with the number of women rising & coming up, I expect things to improve.
Things have already improved, the Literacy Rate & Employment Rate among women, all over the world as well as in India has increased by large numbers in the past 2 decades.
Its time that the society accepts the fact that women are not pleasure objects, women are equally competent as men, some being more competent.
I salute all such intelligent, talanted & competent. One of them being you, Sivapriya.
